A short sternwheel ride across the Ohio River takes visitors on a journey back in time. Just 20 minutes from downtown Parkersburg, West Virginia, Blennerhassett Island welcomes nearly 40,000 visitors each year to explore its rich history and scenic landscape. Jerenie Sands takes you to Parkersburg, West Virginia, for an evening in the old times.

As West Virginia schools hang signs that display the national motto, “In God We Trust,” a debate is unfolding over whether the law that requires the signs preserves American heritage or edges public education closer to religious endorsement.
